Grants Range from $500 to $30,000 annually

The Irwin Andrew Porter Foundation accepts proposals for single year, multi-year and matching grants.

Application for grants are made in two phases. Phase I is an online submission which can be reached by clicking Login & Apply Online at the bottom of the page. Phase I applications may be made and edited at any time up until the April 30 deadline.

If, after the completion of our Phase I reviews, your project is selected for further consideration you must be prepared to deliver a full Phase II application within 30 days of notification. Phase II applications must be received, not postmarked, within the 30 days.

Phase II applications must be submitted in writing via the U.S. postal system. Please send one complete copy of your proposal. All proposals should be on letter size paper, single-sided and unbound.

Incomplete proposals will not be reviewed.

All Organizations whether based in the United States or abroad must be either incorporated in the United States with tax-exempt status or have a fiscal agent incorporated in the United States with an appropriate US IRS tax-exempt designation in order to apply. Do you want to know more about fiscal agents?

Phase I Online Applications include the following:

  • Your non-profit US federal tax id number or the tax id number of your fiscal agent along with their complete contact information
  • Your organization's complete contact information, i.e. the name of an actual human, the organization’s name, an address, a phone number and email address that are valid for the entire period of the review
  • The amount of the request
  • A detailed project budget
  • A one page summary(4000 characters): The summary should contain a brief project description which includes: who the project benefits, how the beneficiaries are giving back to their community because of the project, the number of people served and a list of collaborating groups or organizations (funders are not collaborators). This is a sell sheet not just fact sheet.
  • You will also be asked to answer some general financial questions about your organization as a whole

Phase II Written Applications must include the following:

  • Your organization's complete contact information, i.e. the name of an actual human, the organization’s name, an address, a phone number and email address that are valid for the entire period of the review
  • An expanded narrative containing the following:
    • A more detailed description of the specific project for which you are requesting funds
    • A description of the mission and operations of your organization as a whole
    • The amount of funds requested
    • Who the project benefits, i.e., you have a project in which at-risk youth train pound dogs as service dogs; your beneficiaries are the dogs, the organization who’s mission it is to train dogs, the recipient of the dogs, who receive both the dog and the increased understanding of their lives, the kids who learn empathy, a skill and a sense of accomplishment, and finally the community at large
    • An explanation of how your project causes the beneficiaries to give as well as receive
  • A detailed project budget
  • A copy of your organization’s most recent audited statement (if available)
  • Your organization's current year’s budget
  • A year-to-date balance sheet and statement of revenue and expense.
  • A copy of your organization’s (or fiscal agent's if applicable) IRS tax exempt determination letter (Please make sure your/their Federal tax ID number is on it!)
  • If you are not a non-profit organization with 501(c)3 tax exempt status you must provide a letter from your fiscal agent, dated within the last six months, stating their willingness to act as your fiscal agent and including their contact information
